What is dry ice?
Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide (CO₂) that has specific physical properties that distinguish it from regular ice. Unlike classic ice, which is formed from water, dry ice is formed from carbon dioxide by liquefying this gas under high pressure and then cooling it to a temperature of -78.5 °C. At this temperature, dry ice is in a solid state and has the unique ability to sublimate - to go directly from a solid state to a gas without dissolving into a liquid form.
This sublimation process makes dry ice extremely practical for applications where intensive cooling is needed without leaving behind moisture that could damage materials or disturb the environment. During sublimation, only carbon dioxide (CO₂) is released, which is colorless, odorless and non-flammable. Dry ice is also hygienically harmless and has no effect on the quality of food or sensitive materials, which makes it an excellent choice in the food industry and healthcare.
Temperature
Dry ice has an extremely low temperature of -78.5°C, making it a highly effective cooling agent.
Sublimation
Dry ice does not form a liquid, but turns directly into a gas, providing dry cooling.
Odorless and tasteless
Neovlivňuje chuť ani kvalitu materiálů, s nimiž přichází do kontaktu.
Bacteriostatic effect
Thanks to the low temperature, it prevents the growth of bacteria, ideal for the food industry and medicine.
Use of dry ice
Dry ice is widely used in many industries thanks to its unique physical properties, especially its low temperature and ability to sublimate (change from a solid state directly to a gas). This characteristic makes dry ice indispensable in industries where intensive cooling, cleanliness and efficiency are required.
Dry ice is a versatile tool that provides effective solutions in many industries thanks to its unique properties.
Safety instructions
Dry ice has a very low temperature of -78.5°C and its carbon dioxide (CO₂) vapors stick to the ground. Although it is non-flammable, non-toxic and odorless, it is important to follow safety instructions.
Ensure adequate ventilation, store dry ice in suitable containers, keep health and safety documentation in a visible location, monitor CO₂ levels and use protective equipment. Never consume dry ice.
FIRST AID KIT
In the event of a dry ice accident, it is important to react quickly. In case of skin burns, rinse the affected area with lukewarm water and cover with a sterile bandage. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with water and consult an ophthalmologist. If vapors are inhaled, move victim to fresh air and call for medical assistance. If dry ice is ingested, contact emergency medical services immediately.
